From the office of Ann Arbor Chiropractor, Dr. Mike Tannenbaum, D.C.

I've Heard That Once You See a Chiropractor You Have To Keep Going Back Forever

Many people regularly have their cars oil changed, regularly go to the dentist and regularly get their haircut because they find that if they don't do these “maintenance” type of things there are negative consequences. Generally, within a few weeks of starting chiropractic care you'll be out of pain. You also may feel that you feel better over all. That is, you have better physical, mental and social well being. With this in mind, many patients find that they want to maintain this overall higher functioning and choose to continue with chiropractic on a wellness basis, just like regularly going to the dentist to maintain a high level of dental health.

Chiropractors Only Treat Backs, Necks and Headaches.

No true. Chiropractors treat all the joints in the body. Chiropractors aren’t trained to just treat back pain, neck pain and headaches, rather they are trained to and very effectively treat elbows, wrists, hands knees, ankles, feet, shoulders, etc.

Chiropractic Treatments Are Painful.

Rarely is there pain associated with a chiropractic adjustments. The first time patient may be surprised if they experience cracking or popping sounds associated with some chiropractic techniques and may interpret these sounds as pain. In the rare case that someone feels pain during or after a chiropractic treatment the pain generally feels like they have stretched muscles they haven’t used for some time.

Chiropractors Are Not Competent As That Of Medical Doctors.

Chiropractic education/schooling is rigorous. The course load is very similar to that of medical school with the exception of courses that involve pharmaceutical drugs and surgery. (I spoke of the educational requirements of Doctors of Chiropractic and Medical Doctors in a earlier blog.)

No Research

There is now. Especially in the last 20 years, a considerable amount of gold standard scientific research demonstrating the benefits of chiropractic has been performed.
